Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 1/1/17

I had all these plans about starting to post again, but I think I’m going to start back up again with the new year.  There’s just something so refreshing about a brand new start, isn’t there?

I’m usually the one who doesn’t wait to start things (like diets or exercise programs) until a Monday or a new year.  I’ve always said that if I’m set on starting something, I’m going to start it right this moment.  Writing is one of those things that has been hard to get back into when I stop doing it for a while.  It takes practice… but you do have to start somewhere.

Anyway, I know it’s a bit cliche, but I’m okay with that.  Hopefully you are too and we can all find some great music to share to start out our new year.  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday is to post a song about new beginnings.

As always, you can go your own way and post a song that has nothing to do with the prompt.  We’re all here sharing our love of music and lyrics, and most of all, having a great time!

Also, if you would like to suggest a theme, I am open to suggestions.   Please either pop it in the comments or send me an email at redesp75@yahoo.com.

Here are the “rules”:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
  • Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
  • Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process

Feel free to use the Song Lyric Sunday badge by copying it into your post or add it to your site to show you are participating.

  2. Happy New Year everyone. The song I am posting, “Best I Can,” by Queensryche can be used in so many instances, but for new beginnings it seems to fit well. For me the song embodies taking what life has given, and making the best of it, even if the mistake was yours to begin with. This song was written by Christoper Degarmo and is on their Empire album

A child alone in daddy’s room
    The gun was hidden here
No one home to catch me when I fall
A young man now in a private chair
I’ve seen the world through a bitter stare
But my dream is still alive
I’m going to be the best I can

I want to be a busy man
I want to see a change in the future
I’m gonna make the best of what I have
I want to write for a magazine
I’m gonna be the best they’ve ever seen
I know I’ll win if I give it all I can

I won’t let go, gotta make the grade
No, I won’t let it go
To be the best man, the best man that I can

Back street hoop star you’ve got it good
You were the wonder of the crumbling neighborhood
Now taking bids on the next six digit plan
Showed me that my will survived
The tragedy that came into my life
giving me hope and the new start
    that I have

I won’t let go, gotta make the grade
No, I won’t let it go
To be the best man, the best man that I can

Step by step I dream the plan
From my chair to walking man
This constant dream is on my mind
Chase the light I see ahead
    Luminate the path I tread
I live to be the best I can

    Now I’m moving forward
    And I’m never looking back
Straight ahead, focused on the big attack
On a roll and I’m never slowing down
    I won’t be torn between
    The man in the chair
And the man that’s in my dream
I’m going to melt the two men into one

I won’t let go, gotta make the grade I set
No, I won’t let it go
    To be the best man,
the best man that I can
